Development Update For June So Far.


Here is the latest detailed breakdown of the current commits and development work on Rust so far this month.


AI and NPC Enhancements

  • Wolf and Scientist AI Tweaks: Adjustments to AI behaviours, including improvements to surprise conditions for scientists and refinements to how wolves flank their targets. Additionally, better visibility logging has been implemented to improve AI decision-making.


Auto Turret Optimization

  • Performance Improvements: The Auto Turret system has been optimized by virtualizing part of the transform hierarchy on the server. This has resulted in a significant reduction in update time for turret aiming—shrinking the processing time from 1.29ms to 0.32ms per turret, a 75% performance improvement.


Naval Update

  • Boat Mechanics and Floating Cities: The team has been refining boat building mechanics, setting up basic steering wheel visual turning, and clamping max velocity for stability. Work continues on floating cities, including updates to the security tower visual elements.

  • Trawler Ship Development: Progress has been made on texturing, materials, and models for the trawler ship, improving its overall visual fidelity.


Environmental and World Generation Updates

  • Jungle Fog Enhancements: Improved localized fogging effects in jungle biomes, refining the blue cast at long distances for better environmental immersion.

  • Erosion Mechanics Overhaul: The erosion system has been moved earlier in world generation to minimize disruptions to roads, rivers, and canyons. Additional refinements ensure smoother terrain transitions.


Menu and UI Improvements

  • Server Browser Enhancements:

    • Search Filtering Fixes: Ensuring filters apply correctly when searching for servers.

    • Category Button Timing Adjustments: Improving UI responsiveness.

    • Better Interaction Modal Design: Updates to interaction elements for clarity and usability.

    • Header Filters for Sorting: New filters for sorting servers by name, ping, player count, etc.


Weapon and Item Updates

  • M15 Pistol Refinements: Texture updates, rig skinning, and animation edits to enhance visual quality.

  • Mini Crossbow Animation: Camera animation added to the crossbow’s reloading sequence to improve immersion.

  • Powered Water Purifier Fix: A bug causing water purifiers to accumulate values incorrectly has been addressed, preventing the sudden conversion of large amounts of salt water.

These updates demonstrate significant technical advancements aimed at improving gameplay performance, world immersion, and UI accessibility.
