UK Rust Dev Watch: Rust Commit Summary (Week of 16–22 September 2025)

ree

Here’s a simplified breakdown of the latest development activity from Facepunch’s Rust reboot branch, highlighting upcoming features, fixes, and modding enhancements relevant to UK Rust players and creators.

Gameplay & Systems

Entity Scaling Command A new ent scale command was introduced, allowing developers to test entity scaling on vanilla servers. This could support future dynamic object sizing or visual experimentation.

Puzzle Volume Fixes Sleeping players above ground are now protected from train tunnel puzzle resets. Prefabs updated include:

corridor_straight_a_18m

train_tunnel_double_stop_a This resolves a long-standing issue with unintended deaths during puzzle resets.

Twig Analytics Correction Wood spent on twig structures is now properly tracked in analytics, improving backend accuracy for build behaviour.

Metabolism Tick Rate Fix A precision fix was applied to prevent metabolism from ticking too fast, swapping float for double precision.

Modding & UI Enhancements

Custom UI (CUI) Overhaul Major improvements to modded UI systems:

Manual placeholder graphics for input fields.

Scroll view position exposure.

RPC hooks (DragRPC, DropRPC) now include BasePlayer.

Layout group parsing and padding vector fixes.

Crosshair Customisation UI tweaks suggest ongoing work on player HUD elements, possibly hinting at future client-side crosshair options.

Naval Update Progress

Island Scene Sculpting Terrain splatting and underwater fixes continue, refining coastal and submerged environments.

Oil Rig Missions

Bonus rewards now display clearly on completion.

Editor preview improvements for mission rewards.

Support for non-item rewards added.

HUD clean-up and timing logic refactored.

Scientist Boat AI AI logic for naval encounters is being refined, suggesting more dynamic NPC behaviour on watercraft.

Visual & Texture Optimisation

Mipmap Reduction Clamp Texture streaming now limits mipmap reduction to 1/8th resolution, preventing excessive blurring under load.

Effect Quality Convar A new effectquality setting allows granular control over visual effects’ texture quality.

Developer Tools

Topology Debug Command debug.print_topologies was added to help developers identify terrain features at player locations.

HttpImage Cache Refactoring Texture reference counting and deferred deletion improve UI performance, especially in areas like the friends list.

Miscellaneous Fixes

River Spawn Bug Players will no longer spawn inside rivers, this resolves issues on problematic seeds and world sizes.

Turret Debug Clean-up Residual debug drawing code was removed from turret systems.

No Drone Updates This Week

There were no commits related to drones or drone camera systems. However, known issues persist:

Crashes when pressing ENTER while flying drones.

Mouse wheel camera switching causes instability.

This summary reflects Facepunch’s active focus on naval content, modding flexibility, and UI refinement. For UK Rust, these changes may influence future mission design, build mechanics, and player HUD customisation.
