February is approaching, what will it bring to Rust?

Ok so new year is almost a month behind us now, the teams at facepunch are back up to speed working away on the next things that we can expect to see coming into existence in the game of rust.

Backpacks.

What I do know so far about them is the Small Backpack will have 12 extra slots and cost 5 sewing kits and 50 cloth to craft, The Large Backpack will have 30 slots.

Backpacks are now live on staging. Here are a couple more details:

  • Backpacks are not slowing down movement speed at all

  • The backpack inventory is separate from players inventory

  • When a player dies, the backpack is looted separately, like a box

  • Small backpacks are default blueprints and crafted in 30 seconds (no workbench required)

  • Large backpacks are not craftable and there is no word on where they will be purchased or how much they will cost

  • Small backpack is blue, large backpack is green. Both are the same model just different colours at this point. This is very likely to change.

Metal Detectors.

There has been quite a bit of activity on the commits recently relating to a new tool the Metal Detector. still not merged from a separate branch, we know very little about how these will work in the game, I am assuming that they will allow players to find small deposits of metal and then dig them up.

Other stuff

  • Work on compound redesign

  • New cosmetic flowers being worked on

  • Fixed the size of burst module attachment

  • Some new barrel textures appear to be coming in

  • Work on new explosions FX

  • More player rig work

  • Improvements to map vendor UI being worked on

  • Improvements to repair cost calculations (specifically lowering repair cost of auto turrets)
